The Story of Perl
Perl was a part of our family for 12 and a half years, and lived a very happy life. She was loved very much by her family, and friends. She even played a role in our businesses. She made appearances in major news outlets ( CNN ), documentaries on Silicon Valley, countless hundreds of thousands of social media viewers, and was an all around sweet gal. She is missed.
Perl had been slowing down later in life, as was to be expected, for after all - 12 years is a pretty good lifespan for a boxer. We knew that she wasn't long for this world, but hoped her passing would be as easy for her as possible. One day I noticed that she was having a hard time getting up and doing her usual routine. She started to wear the mask of a dog who was on her way out. We took her to the vet immediately, and after many tests, we fond out that she had cancer. Two, good sized tumors in her spleen and her pancreas. The doctors' prognosis was not good. Perl would have just days or at best up to two months to live. We set right away to doing everything that we could to help her.
THe first thing we did was decide that we were going to cook everything that she loves, and research what foods are best for cancer patients with her condition. We picked up a large amount of chinese herbs that are intended to clot the blod and potentially slow internal bleeding, and we stopped by the grocery store and picked up everything we would need for hew new regimen of foods. Perl sprang back miraculously. We knew that it was still possible for her to bleed out at any moment, so we took extra special care as not to move her too much, but within days she was running outside, going for walks again, and in good spirits. Perl did last that remaining two months, almost to the day, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 18th, 2016. Another victim of that dreadful year. But she lives on with us each day in our hearts, and is often thought of in our family, and most certainly will never be forgotten.
Andrea Litto, executive chef of TailoredCuisine, has decided that she wants to extend this helpful care to others who may be facing the same challenges that we were.
